The livestock auction business was located on Hwy 81 N for many years until it relocated to FM 174.
The current sale barn on FM 174 was built in 1973 by John Treadwell and Larry Ogle. In 1974 Ronnie Ogle and Larry Ogle bought out John Treadwell. In 1988 Larry and Ronnie dissolved the partnership and Larry and his family ran Bowie Livestock. The sale barn was sold to John Michner who sold it back to Larry Ogle who sold it to Ronnie Austin. In 2004 the sale barn was bought by Don and Karen Jackson who ran it up to 2015 when they sold it to the present owners Michael and Enda O’Dwyer.
The O’Dwyer family moved from Ireland in 2006 and bought a cattle ranch north of Nocona Texas. Michael O’Dwyer was raised on a horse and cattle ranch in Ireland as were his sons Paul and David O’Dwyer. The ranch in Ireland was in the O’Dwyer family since 1601 and passed from father to son for many generations until Michael sold it in 2006 to move to Texas. The O’Dwyer’s are very experienced in the Horse and Cattle business. In Ireland they ran a dairy herd and then changed to a cow and calf operation. For many years they exported sport horses from Ireland to VA.
The O’Dwyer’s are committed to making the Bowie Livestock Sale Barn the place where you will want to buy and sell your cattle and horses. We work to meet the needs of our sellers and buyers. Since taking over the sale barn on June 1st we made several improvements. We have increased the size of the sales ring and for your comfort we put in additional seating. You can enjoy a meal in our Café that is open on sale days.
We invite you to drop by and visit us.
